Confidentiality & Privacy Policy
At Orlando Psychiatrist, we are committed to protecting the confidentiality and privacy of our patients, in full compliance with Florida state law, the Florida Board of Medicine and Psychiatry, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Confidentiality of Records
The relationship between a client and a licensed mental health provider is protected by law. Information shared in the context of treatment is confidential and will not be disclosed without the client’s written consent, except in the following legally mandated circumstances:
•Suspected Abuse or Neglect: If there is reasonable suspicion of child abuse, elder abuse, or abuse of a vulnerable or dependent adult, we are required by Florida law to report this immediately to the appropriate protective services or law enforcement agency.
•Threat of Harm to Others: If a client makes a credible threat of serious physical harm to another identifiable person, we are required to take protective action. This may include notifying law enforcement and warning the intended victim, in accordance with Florida’s duty-to-warn statutes.
•Threat of Self-Harm: If a client poses a serious risk of self-injury or suicide and is unwilling or unable to take steps to ensure their safety, we may initiate further intervention. This may involve contacting emergency services or pursuing involuntary evaluation under the Florida Mental Health Act (Baker Act) when necessary to protect the individual’s life.
